Our pair of storks at the Hanselmann site have had chicks – two females, freshly ringed and named Rose (2,800 g) and Emilia (3,100 g). The experts were satisfied: the chicks were in excellent condition and the nest was impeccably built. Both are also fitted with a tracking system – their first major journey will therefore be monitored scientifically.
Something that has long been a feature of the Crailsheim site: the pair of storks spend the winter apart – he in Spain, she in Morocco – and return without fail every spring. The male always arrives about 14 days earlier. And for years now, his arrival has coincided with the start of our season. When the storks arrive, we get started.
